American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) Cooperative has announced its 2023-2024 AFR Youth Advisory Council. This year’s council members were chosen by popular vote during the organization’s 2023 Senior Leadership Summit, which was held July 26-29.

Ten agricultural youth from across Oklahoma have earned top placings in the 2023 American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) Agricultural Achievement Contest. The contest was conducted in conjunction with the Oklahoma Youth Expo (OYE) in Oklahoma City March 8-17. This year, AFR presented $5,000 in prizes to contestants prior to the Oklahoma Youth Expo Grand Drive March 16.

More than 2,000 students statewide competed in the 2023 American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) Cooperative Poster Contest. Participation is limited to Oklahoma elementary students in two age divisions—Division I for students in grades 1-2 and Division II for students in grades 3-4. The top five posters in each division received cash awards.

Thirty youth from across Oklahoma competed in the 2022 Midwest Shows Livestock Handling Scholarship Contest Nov. 18. The annual competition showcases the skills of young FFA members in practical, real-life cattle handling scenarios, such as weighing for accurate dosage, vaccinating and tagging calves in a manual chute. Contestants are judged on skill, accuracy and efficiency as they process the animals.

Woods County American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) has awarded three local students with AFR County/Local Match Scholarships. Ko Brooks, Mattie Pettus and Kathleen Leeper all of Alva, each received $500 scholarship. Brooks plans to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University to study biology pre-veterinarian with a minor in animal science. Pettus plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study plant and soil sciences. Leeper plans to attend Northern Oklahoma College to study agriculture business.

Payne County American Farmers & Ranchers (AFR) has awarded two local students with AFR County/Local Match Scholarships. Landree Siebert and Harli Cundiff both of Stillwater, each received $500 scholarship. Siebert plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study marketing and business. Harli Cundiff plans to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University to study nursing.

The contest was conducted in conjunction with the Oklahoma Youth Expo (OYE) in Oklahoma City March 12‐17. This year, AFR/OFU presented $5,000 in prizes to contestants prior to the Oklahoma Youth Expo Grand Drive March 18.
